Workers' housing colony from the 19th century in Lębork
In the late 19th century, alongside elegant residential buildings, the development of construction beyond the central area of the city was also initiated. An innovative project of a housing estate for the workers of a local match factory was distinguished at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. According to this plan, two types of workers' houses were realized. One of them was erected in the southern part of Grunwaldzka Street (currently non-existent) and on Targowa Street, where low, plastered, two-story buildings, placed closely together, form parallel rows. The spaces between the rear facades are filled with utility yards, and small gardens are located on the street side. Entrances are placed at the ends of the axes, and triangular gables crown the central sections.
