The War Cemetery of Soldiers from the 1st Naval Rifle Regiment in the hamlet of Biała near Wejherowo commemorates the battle of September 8, 1939, during which 24 soldiers from the 1st Naval Rifle Regiment were killed in clashes with the Germans. This regiment did not exist within the peacetime structures of the Polish Army; it was mobilized on August 24, 1939, by the 1st Naval Rifle Battalion. Comprised of two battalions, with a total of 1,841 officers, non-commissioned officers, and riflemen, the regiment was one of the main pillars of the Land Defense of the Coast under the command of Colonel Stanisław Dąbek. Its task was to defend the western approaches to Gdynia over a section approximately 15 km wide and, in the event of an attack by superior German forces, to delay their advance along the Wejherowo–Gniewino–Kępa Oksywska axis.
