Tumulus in Mieroszyno

monuments

In Mieroszyno, at the northern edge of Kępa Swarzewska, the only barrow from an extensive Bronze Age cemetery has been preserved, making it one of the largest objects of this kind in Pomerania. Discovered in 1999, its shape resembles a circle with a diameter of 14 meters, and its base is marked by a double stone wreath made of large, carefully fitted erratic boulders. The stone mound, reaching a height of about 1.5 meters, consists of several layers of sand and stones. During the excavations, fragments of stone wreaths were also discovered, preserved beneath the surface. The discovery of two cremation graves, two vessels, and human bone remains beneath the stone layer is a significant element in the history of this place. Unfortunately, many barrows that once existed in the Puck Land did not survive to the present day. Some of the areas where they used to be are now referred to as "mogiłki" (little mounds). The barrow in Mieroszyno serves as a lasting trace of the civilizational changes that the areas of Kępa Swarzewska underwent in the late Bronze Age. Its presence is also linked to settlements not visible on the surface and constitutes a fascinating attraction for history and archaeology enthusiasts.
