The Manor in Przebedowo

monuments

The surname von Prebendow derives from the name of the locality, and refers to the 18th-century owners of Wejherowo. The first mentions of Prebendow date back to the 15th century when it was established under the laws of Old Pomerania and paid taxes in kind (pigs, goats, and cows). A letter from 1455 has been preserved from private correspondence between Barzem von Prebendow and the Grand Master of the Order. Jordan and Martin Prebendow had their headquarters in Prebendow in 1493. Documents from 1544, 1575, 1605, 1609, and 1621 have survived, confirming the fiefs of this family in Prebendow.

The manor house from the mid-19th century, farm buildings, park, and old evangelical cemetery with German and Kashubian tombstones from the 19th century were owned by the von Wittke family from 1792 to 1945. Representatives of this family erected a longitudinal manor house with a two-story projection in the mid-19th century, with modest neo-Gothic features. Currently, the manor-park complex is privately owned. For many years, the Bird Migration Research Station of the University of Gdańsk was located in the manor, supervised by Professor Busse. The center served as the organizational hub for thirty research stations from around the world. Around 2010, the Bird Migration Research Station was relocated to the University of Gdańsk. The Busse family continues to own the manor.
