The History of the Church in Mały Kack

monuments

The earliest mentions of the church date back to the 16th century. The presbytery from that period is the remaining part of a church erected in Mały Kack between 1568 and 1572 by Gergen Rosenberg. Around 1585, the church was expanded by Gergen's son, Jerzy Rosenberg, who served as the burggrave and mayor of Gdańsk. After a tragic fire in the second half of the 18th century, the presbytery was rebuilt. Inside the church, visitors can admire a historic pulpit from the 17th century and a votive painting depicting a man in armor kneeling before the cross, dated to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. In the lower corner of the painting, the donor’s coat of arms, belonging to the Rosenberg family, is visible. Before 1945, the church was Protestant and is now Catholic. In 1952, the cemetery was expanded, and in 1955, a tower was added. At that time, the church received new altars: two wooden side altars and a main altar. The old main altar was replaced with a marble one, now located in the chapel beneath the tower.
