The Church of Borzytuchom – A Historic Witness of Bygone Centuries
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Borzytuchom, located just 10 km from Bytów near Lake Duże, boasts a long and fascinating history dating back to the 14th century. The first records of the parish and priest come from 1350, and in 1445, the priest was granted land. From the former Catholic church, two bells from 1449 and 1487 have been preserved, and in the current church's porch, there is a stone baptismal font from the late 14th century, possibly associated with Borzytuchom’s first church. During the Reformation until 1637, the church was used by Lutherans. In the 18th century, Borzytuchom became a branch of the parish in Ugoszcz, and earlier it belonged to the parish in Niezabyszewo. The Catholic church was dismantled in 1803 due to its poor condition, and in 1804 a new Lutheran church was built on the same site. The current church is already the third building on these foundations. After World War II, the church was reclaimed by Catholics, and in 1951, the parish in Borzytuchom was established, with Rev. Jan Klepa as its first priest. The church features a brick western facade and a distinctive tent-shaped roof that gives the structure a unique character. The interior furnishings mainly date from the postwar period.
