St. Joseph's Church in Czeczewo
The history of St. Joseph's Parish in Czeczewo dates back to 1923, when the Church Building Committee was formed to raise funds for a new church. In 1925, Bishop Augustyn Rosentreter, the Chełmno Ordinary, established the parish of St. Joseph, covering villages previously belonging to the parishes of Żukowo, Kielno, and Przodkowo. Initially, pastoral care was provided by priests from neighboring parishes, primarily Żukowo, and Masses were held in the local primary school during construction. In 1927, Bishop Stanisław Okoniewski granted the parish independence, appointing Fr. Bolesław Melocha as curate. During his service, the church was completed, land was purchased for a cemetery, and a mortuary was built. That same year, the parish received three bells, donated by Walenty Hirsch, an emigrant from Czeczewo living in Detroit, United States. Unfortunately, during World War II, two smaller bells were confiscated by the German military, but the largest, weighing 600 kg, survived these difficult times.
