St. Adalbert’s Church in Świerki – A Historic 18th-Century Evangelical Church
Church in Świerki, now serving as a Catholic church, was originally an Evangelical congregation built in 1798. The builders were Jacob Thommas, Johan Jacob Schroeter, and George Jaciubowsky, while the founder was Peter Deutschendorff from Nidowo. This church was erected after the earlier 17th-century Evangelical church fell into ruin and was demolished. It is a half-timbered structure filled with red brick, set upon a brick base. The church features a single-nave, hall-style layout in the shape of an elongated octagon, with a chancel and vestibule integrated into the octagon. A slender, wooden roof turret with a spire highlights the symmetrical design of the building. On the façade, a Prussian insurance plaque from the “Aachener” company reminds us of the mandatory building fire insurance introduced in the early 19th century.
Inside, the church retains a Baroque altar and a Neoclassical pulpit dating to 1851. The gallery is adorned with Corinthian-style wooden columns.
