Palace in Poraj

monuments

At the turn of the 19th century, a palace was erected, which became the headquarters of the Research Station for experiments in the marshy areas. In 1897, a special Peat Bog Commission was established at the Chamber of Agriculture of the Province of Pomerania, whose main goal was to develop the extensive Łeba peat bog. The initiator of the establishment of the Institute in this area was the chairman of the Pomeranian Chamber of Agriculture in Szczecin and a member of the German Agricultural Council, Baron Ulrich Conrad Freiherr von Wangenheim. It is this commission that is credited with transforming these areas from marshes into fertile fields and green meadows. Scientific research was also conducted there during the Polish period. The palace resembles a grand, two-story villa with a square plan. Each elevation features a central, slightly protruding projection extending beyond the ridge of the roof. A wooden veranda on a stone plinth was added to the western wing, distinguished by decorative windows with arched shapes.
