Orłowo Cliff - The Power of Erosion and the Beauty of the Natural Coastline
The Orłowo Cliff is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Gdynia, attracting both locals and tourists with its unique charm. Located in the Orłowo district, the steep cliff, reaching a height of 40 meters, is distinguished by its rugged form, which was created as a result of continuous abrasion processes, and its varied slopes give the landscape a spectacular appearance. The cliff, formed mainly of glacial till and glacial sands and gravels, stretches for about 650 meters and is a natural symbol of the changing coastline of the Gulf of Gdańsk.
Although this place is captivating for its natural beauty, it is also an example of the destructive power of the sea - every year the cliff retreats by about a meter. Storm waves undermine the slopes, causing them to gradually collapse into the Baltic Sea. It is predicted that if erosion continues at this rate, future generations may no longer see this unique formation. From the top of the cliff and along the seaside promenade to Sopot, there is a panoramic view of the Gulf of Gdańsk, the port of Gdynia, and the Hel Peninsula. From the beach and the pier in Orłowo, the cliff presents a spectacular view, offering unforgettable sights.
