Old Town in Lebork
In Lębork, despite its tumultuous, barely 700-year history marked by the destruction of the city by hostile armies, there are objects that have survived, whose rich, diverse architecture never fails to enchant and attract. Gothic, neo-Gothic, neoclassicism, expressionism, Secession, rationalism, "historicizing" style, and finally eclecticism - these are just some of the stylistic inspirations that can be found in this picturesque city. The old town, located on the right bank of the river, is surrounded by remnants of defensive walls. It was destroyed several times by humans and fires, including in the 17th century. After the fire of 1899, which destroyed most of the old town, it was rebuilt, adopting various architectural styles. However, after the Red Army's march in 1945, 50% of the buildings lay in ruins, and some of them have not been reconstructed to this day, such as the southern and western sides of the market square.
