Manor House in Paraszyno - History, Architecture and Picturesque Landscape

monuments

The Manor House in Paraszyno, built in the second half of the 18th century, belongs to the group of manors of the Pomeranian nobility and is an exceptional example of the harmony between aesthetic and utilitarian values. Located in the picturesque valley of the Łeba River, in the heart of the Northern Kashubia, it blends perfectly with the surrounding landscape. Next to the manor house, there was a sawmill by the river, dating back to 1750-1800, and wooden farm buildings such as a stable, carriage house and barn, surrounded by a stone and wooden fence. Unfortunately, these buildings were destroyed during World War II, and only the manor house and the manager's house survived.

The single-story manor house was built on a rectangular plan and has a mansard roof with a gable (dating from the 19th century), with a richly decorated facade, especially in the northern part. The front of the building faces north, and the interior has a layout typical of the 18th century. On the ground floor, there is a large living room in the central axis, equipped with a low, brick fireplace, and rooms - three in the western part and two in the eastern part. The attic serves as a residential area, and in the cellars, vaulted with a barrel vault, some of the rooms were used as a wine store.

In the mid-19th century, the estate passed into the hands of the Zalewski family, who carried out significant renovation work. Ornamental elements were introduced on the facade, new front doors and decorative window frames. At the beginning of the 20th century, semicircular gables of the northern and southern facades were added, decorated with the coats of arms of the Zalewski and Von Besser families. The manor house remained in the possession of the Von Besser family until 1945. Around the building, a rustic garden was laid out with an axial driveway and a fountain, which further emphasized the representative character of the estate.

Today, the Manor House in Paraszyno is not only a testament to the former glory of the Pomeranian nobility but also an extraordinary place where tradition intertwines with the history of the region.
