Klanino Palace - History and Attractions

monuments

Klanino Palace, built in the 17th century, is one of the gems of Pomerania, combining rich history with extraordinary architectural values. Over the centuries, the estate belonged to renowned families, including the Kłanickis, Klińskis, Janowscy, Ustarbowscy, and from 1838, the von Grass family.

The palace is distinguished by its eclectic style, which is the result of reconstructions at the end of the 19th century and in the 1930s. The building, laid out in the shape of the letter "F", is characterized by a Neoclassical facade, a two-story structure, and a segmented mass. The eastern facade has a terrace, and before the war, the palace had two towers, of which one remains.

The greatest attraction is the restored Gdansk hall from the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, adorned with spiral staircases and a Baroque cabinet. The staircase, transferred from a tenement house in Gdansk, is decorated with Delft tiles that also adorn the fireplace and the stairs to the cellar. In the hall, there are 19th-century stained glass windows discovered in the attic.

In the western part of the residence, there is a banquet hall with decorative stucco designed by André Lambert. The stylish interiors of the rooms refer to the historical character of the building.

The palace is surrounded by a picturesque 2-hectare landscape park, with natural monuments and rare tree species, such as the ginkgo biloba and cypress. The lime tree alley leading to the 19th-century gate is a reminder of the von Grass family, who developed the estate by establishing gardens, a brickyard, and a distillery.

After the war, the palace served, among other things, as an agricultural school and a boarding school. Currently, after restoration, it invites lovers of history and architecture.
