Historic refrigeration building in Gdynia

monuments

The skeleton construction building is characterized by a distinctive red facade with light plastered pilasters that harmonize with the interior. The history of this structure dates back to the 1920s. It was here that the direct cooling system was first applied, using ammonia as a refrigerant. The technical and construction project with installations was developed by the Belgian company "Ateliers B. Lebrun, Societe Anonyme, Nimy." The building was put into use in 1930, becoming the largest warehouse of its kind in Europe at that time and the first in Poland. The cold storage was intended to meet the needs of the growing export and import of food products. On August 20, 1990, the building was entered into the register of monuments.
