Grand Architecture in a Small Village – The Neo-Baroque Church of St. Joseph in Wygoda Łączyńska
The Church of St. Joseph in Wygoda Łączyńska, built between 1913 and 1914 according to a design by architect Fritz Kunst from Cologne, stands as one of the most intriguing neo-baroque monuments in the Kashubia region. This church, impressive in its size and architectural grandeur, was erected in a small village with only 13 residents at the time. The first parish priest initiated the construction, driven by a desire to unite the residents of nearby villages and fulfill their spiritual needs. The location of Wygoda Łączyńska was key, situated at the crossroads of roads from neighboring towns, making it an ideal central point for the faithful. The church is surrounded by an arcade wall, and its brick structure rises on a Latin cross plan, crowned by a 32-meter tower. The front facade above the entrance features an exceptional bas-relief of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, crafted by Franz Vlasdeck from Mainz, immediately catching the eye. The brick facade is further embellished with numerous plaster details characteristic of the neo-baroque style.
