District Court Building in Gdynia

monuments

The building was erected in 1936 according to the design by the joint venture of Karpiński, Sieczkowski, and Sołtyński. Its complex structure consists of a rectangular prism housing a tall main hall and two symmetrical wings running along an arc. This architectural triptych is reminiscent of the avant-garde movement in the 20th century, known as the style of "moderate functionalism" in architecture. This trend rejects traditional styles, instead adhering to the principle of structural plasticity, seeking its own unique language of expression. The avant-garde form of this building has become one of the symbolic representatives of modernity in Gdynia.
