Closed lighthouse in Rozewie

monuments

The increase in maritime traffic in the second half of the 19th century resulted in frequent navigational errors by ships passing Rozewie at night on their way to the Bay of Gdańsk. Ships often mistook Rozewie for Hel, which frequently led to their running aground between Chałupy and Jastarnia. This led to the construction of a second lighthouse (now inactive) to duplicate the lights of the Rozewie lighthouse and make it easier to distinguish their characteristics from nearby lighthouses, such as those in Czołpino and Hel. The second lighthouse at Rozewie operated from 1875 to 1910. Until around 1990, the tower of the inactive lighthouse was used as an observation tower and a location for a radar antenna of the Border Guard post.
