The Collegiate Church, often referred to as a cathedral, is the most precious monument in Pomerania. It is one of the most distinguished Gothic churches in the Baltic Sea basin, influencing numerous constructions in the region. The original church was built in 1242 and had a wooden structure. The masonry building was erected between 1292 and 1324, taking the form of a hall with three aisles and a prominent presbytery. The western side was completed with a stepped gable adorned with blind arches, but it did not have a tower. From 1388 to 1500, the expansion of the church began, resulting in the elevation of the main nave, giving it the form of a basilica. Towers were built, and rich decorations were placed on the external elevations, giving it the appearance of a cathedral. Unfortunately, in 1635, the church was significantly damaged by a fire. Reconstruction started in 1639, giving it an interior in the Baroque style.
