Church in Lubowidz

monuments

The main landmark of this charming village is its church, which was consecrated on November 24, 1909. On Ascension Day, May 28, 1908, the municipal council decided to fulfill the long-awaited dreams of Lubowidz residents by building a church. The municipality allocated 4000 marks for this purpose from its funds, and an additional 5000 marks were received from the sources of the provincial synod. However, these funds were not sufficient to cover the total construction costs. It is worth mentioning that further financial support came from the Gustav Adolf Foundation and from the residents themselves, who organized fundraisers, led by the well-known butcher Mr. Schwichtenberg and teacher Mr. Lawrenz. 600 marks were collected, which were allocated to the so-called bell fund. The foundation stone for the construction of the temple was laid on the first day of Easter in 1908. The church itself, although simple in form and modest architecturally, was very thoughtfully integrated into both the village landscape and its life. The construction inspector was Mr. Fromm - the district inspector, and the construction supervision was carried out by the architect Mr. Wagner, while the construction was undertaken by the well-known craftsmen Mr. Knaack and Mr. Behnke. The dedication ceremony was attended by, among others, General Superintendent D. Buchsel, Consistorial President Mr. Gotzner, County Councillor Dr. Kutscher, and the counts from Janowo and Godentowo.
