Air Raid Shelter in the Port of Gdynia
The structure erected by the Germans in the early 1940s is a shelter associated with the Kriegsmarine base. Its construction aimed to provide refuge for the crews of warships in the face of increasing threats from Allied military air raids. It is a Luftschutz Hochbunker T-750 type shelter. Heavy anti-aircraft shelters of the "T" series were exclusively built for the German Navy, while other types of bunkers were intended for civil defense purposes. Designed for 750 people, the shelter has three stories, and its walls are 2.5 meters thick, with the top floor exceeding 3.5 meters in thickness. The facility is equipped with its own well and a power generator. Rooms include 24 different types of chambers, such as living quarters, a command room, a communication center, a boiler room, bathrooms, and the top floor currently serves as a shooting range. The building does not have a basement.
